After his F1 career he became a successful broadcaster, businessman and F1 team owner. He is much sought after by company heads and boards around the world for his inspirational leadership and advice; Sir Jackie was accompanied by his wife Lady Helen.

Rashed Al Baloushi, ADX Deputy Chief Executive commented, “we are delighted to host GCU’s inaugural regional event and to welcome such a distinguished guest, Sir Jackie Stewart. ADX is also delighted to acknowledge the achievements of Khalid Abdulrahim, recognizing the benefits the Yas-Marina circuit will bring to Abu Dhabi; it is a very timely award given that Abu Dhabi has been chosen to host the final event in the F1 calendar.”

Professor Pamela Gillies, GCU Principal and Vice-Chancellor, said that the evening at the ADX was one of the highlights of a very successful visit to the Region: “It is fitting that one of our most distinguished honorary graduates, Sir Jackie Stewart, has honoured one of our very successful alumni, Khalid Abdulrahim, at such a prestigious venue. GCU has worked in partnership in the Gulf Region for almost fifteen years, and looks forward to building on this success in future partnerships.”

Khalid Abdulrahim head of the construction company giant Cebarco stated, “I am delighted to be recognized by Glasgow Caledonian University for my achievements in front of my peers and distinguished guests and equally delighted it has taken place here in Abu Dhabi at ADX. I am particularly proud of the Yas-Marina circuit, which was the vision of His Highness Sheik Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nayan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, who was instrumental in the evolution of this project into what it is today”.

About Khalid Abdulrahim undertook his studies at Glasgow Caledonian University when he was building one of the most challenging construction projects in Bahrain - the Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit which had to be completed in 16 months from a standing start. It was completed on time and this achievement helped to establish him as a major player in the construction industry in the Middle East. His turnover has grown from that time in 2003/04 when it stood at USD150 million to the present USD1.5 Billion. He was recently nominated as Middle East Entrepreneur of the year and holds the University in very high regard and always available to help with initiatives in the Middle East.
