The circuit is located on Yas Island. The Project comprises of five permanent grandstands, Pit building and paddock club, VIP tower, Office Buildings, Gate House’s/Security Areas, Maintenance Areas, Workshops, Track events Building, Medical Centre, Media Centre, Team Buildings, Satellite Broadcasting Compound, Various tunnels, Catering and Hospitality areas, Dragster Track and Race Control and VIP buildings. A unique feature is that the pit lane exit runs underneath the track. The track itself has several short cuts and combinations with the GP circuit having twenty one corners and several straights.
The surface of the track is a special asphalt mix utilising graywacke aggregates, imported from the UK.. The surface material is highly acclaimed by circuit bosses and Formula One drivers for the high level of grip it offers. The same aggregate material is used at the Bahrain International Circuit for the Bahrain Grand Prix.
The project was constructed under difficult circumstances with a complete hold being placed during construction when the original part Permanent/part Street circuit was changed to a complete motorsports facility incorporating, dragster, dynamic areas, driver training, go karting and the provision for off-roading and other applications.
At the construction peak there were over 14,000 workers employed on the project.
